Decode a VSB impact rating (IWA 14-1, ISO 22343-1 or PAS 68) into plain fields, and work out the kinetic energy of a vehicle at a given speed and mass. A reference aid, not a substitute for a formal specification or a Vehicle Dynamics Assessment.
Paste a rating code. Square brackets are read as IWA 14-1 / ISO 22343-1; round brackets with a debris figure as PAS 68.
Kinetic energy = ½ × mass × speed². The energy the vehicle carries at impact, for comparison only.
Ratings from different standards are not interchangeable. Penetration is measured from the front (impact) face under IWA 14-1 and ISO 22343, and from the rear (defensive) face under PAS 68, so the same stopped vehicle records a different figure. A rating only holds if the site foundation and ground match the tested condition. "Designed to" or "engineered to" a standard is not a tested rating.
